Comparison is everywhere

Comparison is everywhere.
.
It shows up in our conversations, our social feeds, even in our damn running apps. 🙄
.
.
“Comparison is the thief of joy” ~Theodore Roosevelt
.
.
When we’re in comparison mode, all of the progress and goodness in our lives disappears. All that is left is frustration and envy.
.
Do you know what the antidote to comparison is? Gratitude.
.
Gratitude helps us quiet our saboteurs (aka the judgy voices in our mind that criticizes us for past mistakes and future failures).
.
When we can quiet these voices, we can see the world with new eyes. Our comparison stories become a signal for what we actually desire. 🤯We can reframe the stories we tell ourselves.
*
For example:
My comparison story: “Everyone else has a booming coaching business!” (Can you hear the judge voice? I think she is stomping her feet like a 6-year old. No fair!)
*
My gratitude story: “I have made major progress this year! I want to evolve my business and have more of an impact. What does this look like in 2021?” (Can you hear the patience and possibility?)
*
*
Another one:
My comparison story: “What’s the point of having kids now? I’ll be 42 in a month. Everyone else’s kids are grown.”
*
My gratitude story: “Age is a state of mind. Stay hopeful. You are whole woman even without a child.” (Can you see that my true desire of having a family is being masked by fear and what is typical in our society? Again,🙄)
.
I am sharing these vulnerable thoughts & judgy voices because I KNOW that everyone has them. The trick is to identify them as separate from our true selves. When we can neutralize these thoughts/voices, we can take away their power. We can identify what we truly want and enter into a state of possibility.
.
I have so so much that I am grateful for. At the same time, I’m human too. I forget. I get lost on my path. I get stuck.
.
SO, in the spirit of changing perspectives… and gratitude…and my birthday month (yay!)… and ending the year in a state of possibility… I’m going to remind myself every day in December of one thing I’m grateful for. Follow my gratitude journey on Instagram between Dec1-31.
