Office Hours 9/25: How to Build Employee Confidence
In today’s Office Hours with Liddell Consulting Group, we discussed building employee confidence and the coaching technique of ‘asking powerful questions’.
Powerful questions open up space for ideas, allow discussions to flourish and build emotional intelligence. Here are a few examples you can use in your next 1:1 with your employees or in performance reviews.
Take notice: most of them start with WHAT (vs. WHY). ‘WHY’ can elicit defensiveness. ‘WHAT’ opens up to deeper thought and discussion.
What do you need from me?
What do you need from the organization?
What's standing in your way?
Can you tell me more?
What will happen if you don’t take this step?
What does success look like?
What are you most proud of?
What do you want?
What have you done to solve the problem?
What are you doing to NOT achieve your goals?
If this main obstacle didn’t exist, how would you approach this situation?
What will things look like after this project is completed?
What did you learn the most? Why is that important to you?
So what?
Why not?
